PATIALA: In a major breakthrough,
Patiala Police arrested a
hardcore criminal required in more than 16 cases of loot and murder.
The police said that the accused identified as
Davinder Singh of a village in Patran Tehsil of Patiala district was an inter-state criminal and was nabbed along with a .32 bore pistol.
SSP Patiala, Sandeep Garg said that the accused was nabbed by the police party led by
CT Wing incharge, inspector Shamindar Singh while they have launched a crackdown on anti-social elements.
"Upon getting a tip off, he was apprehended from Muradpura village. The entire operation was monitored and led by SP (Investigation) Mehtab Singh and SP (Traffic) Palwinder Singh Cheema. A 32-bore pistol and six cartridges were recovered from him and a Varna car used in various incidents was also recovered. Davinder had brought a pistol with some of his accomplices with which he was on the verge of committing a major crime” SSP said while adding that the accused was being thoroughly investigated by the police to know his further plans.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Samana City Police Station. The police had produced the accused in court after which he was sent to police remand for further investigation on Friday.
The police said that there were about 16 cases registered against Davinder Singh in Punjab and Haryana under the charges of murder, theft, looting, Kidnapping and Arms Act. Recently in July this year the Samana police booked Davinder under section 365, 323, 341, 506, 148, 149, 120-B IPC for allegedly kidnapping and beating up a person. He was also wanted by Patiala police in this case.
