Earlier, India were restricted to 364 in their first innings. After resuming on 276/3, India lost two quick wickets of KL Rahul (129) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) in the first session of the second day. England maintained their momentum and ended their opponents’ innings before the tea break by scalping seven wickets for just 88 runs. James Anderson led the pace attack for the hosts, registering impressive figures of 5/62, alongside Mark Wood (2/91) and Ollie Robinson (2/73).
Rory Burns was dismissed late in the day for 49, and Joe Root finished unbeaten on 49, as England finish on 119/3 after bowling India out for 364. India lead by 245 runs. Overall, a good day for England but India still on top in the match after that late wicket of Burns.
And there's the breakthrough! Shami does the trick and breaks England's 85-run third-wicket partnership. Burns (49) falls after being trapped between the wickets by the pacer... not even a review can save him! ENG: 108/3 (41.2 overs)
The partnership continues to grow and England march on! Burns (46*) and Root (38*) help their team reach 100 after a rocky start to the final session. Looking for a wicket, Kohli has brought in Jadeja but to no avail. ENG: 100/2 (38 overs)
The danger of Root (24*) is clearly showing right now at Lord's! He accelerates his innings by smacking Ishant for three boundaries in the pacer's last two overs. 50-run partnership between him and Burns also up! ENG: 73/2 (30 overs)
After scoring just seven runs in the last five overs, England wake up from their slumber. Burns (31*) ups the ante against Siraj and hits him for three boundaries in four balls. On the other end, skipper Root is on 10*. ENG: 54/2 (27 overs)
Ever since the dismissals, it has been a slow day at the office for the hosts with Root (5*) and Burns (11*) weathering the Siraj-Shami onslaught. India are aiming to scalp a few more, most importantly Root's wicket. ENG: 29/2 (20 overs)
What a start to the final session! Sibley is sent back to the pavilion on 11 by Siraj. Earlier, Shami had him caught at short mid-wicket off a leading edge at Trent Bridge, and now it's the same fate for Sibley. Haseeb Hameed comes to the crease next, and wow! Siraj absolutely knocks him over on his first ball. Clean bowled! ENG: 23/2 (14.3 overs)
England go into tea at 23/0 after 14 overs with both Burns and Sibley on identical scores, 11 off 42 balls.
Both the batsmen are taking it nice and easy for now. Although Sibley started off with a four in the third over, he has been calculative with his shots. Burns gets in on the act too, hits Ishant for a four. ENG: 14/0 (7 overs)
Rory Burns and Dom Sibley open for England, while Ishant Sharma restarts the proceedings. Here we go!
All out! After Ishant's wicket, Bumrah gets caught behind by Anderson and Jadeja falls last after failing to execute a proper pull shot. Wood scalps his second wicket as Jadeja goes back on 40. Anderson ends the first innings with figures of 5/62. England have been brilliant on Day 2, scalping seven wickets for just 88 runs. IND: 364 (126.1 overs)
Ishant gone... and Anderson gets his fourth of the innings! A big inswinger catches the tall Indian pacer off-guard and it's given LBW! Ishant (8) goes for a review but it doesn't work out for him. Up next, Bumrah! IND: 362/8 (124 overs)
Ravindra Jadeja seems to trust Ishant Sharma more in the second session. Ishant has been applying himself well in the middle in his own way. Ishant has scored 4 runs in the session so far. IND 350/7 after 119 overs
Ishant Sharma gets off the mark with a quick single. The focus will be on Ravindra Jadeja as he is in charge of getting India to a big first innings score. As expected, Joe Root gets his best bowlers Ollie Robinson and James Anderson into the attack straight away. IND 347/7 after 117 overs
Ravindra Jadeja has ensured that he keeps the most of the strike. Jadeja has looked for boundaries and twos after the wicket of Mohammed Shami. The southpaw is batting on 31 from 86 deliveries. Ishant Sharma has done his job. Ishant has faced seven dot deliveries so far. The first session of Day 2 belonged to England as they took four wickets for 70 runs. In the second session, India will hope that Jadeja gets them past 400. IND 346/7 after 116 overs
Mohammed Shami comes out to bat at No.8 but does not play the part. Second delivery he faces from Moeen Ali and plays it straight to short mid-wicket fielder. Now, Ishant Sharma needs to support Ravindra Jadeja. IND 336/7 after 110.5 overs
Rishabh Pant flashes his bat on the delivery outside off stump and pays the price. No feet movement at all and extra bounce generated by Mark Wood does the trick. An easy catch for Jos Buttler and Pant is out for 37. The sixth-wicket partnership comes to an end. India's tail needs to wag again. Let's see if Ravindra Jadeja shifts gears now. IND 331/6 after 110 overs
It is turning out to be just the partnership needed after losing two early wickets in the day. Rishabh Pant has taken a balanced approach after counter-attacking James Anderson and Ollie Robinson. Pant has moved into 30s and looks set for a long innings. On the other end, Ravindra Jadeja is scoring at a strike rate of just over 20. He has moved into double digits now. Skipper Joe Root has also introduced right-arm off-spinner Moeen Ali into the attack. Good tactic considering two left-handed batsmen are in the middle. IND 319/5 after 107 overs
Ravindra Jadeja hits his first boundary of the innings as Sam Curran bowls on his pads. On the other end, Rishabh Pant is being watchful after hitting a few boundaries. This is a crucial partnership for India if they need to go past 400. James Anderson and Ollie Robinson have finished their first spells. Mark Wood and Curran will hunt for wickets now. The two bowlers were wicketless on Day 1. IND 302/5 after 102 overs
And Rishabh Pant is back to his own ways after a few dot deliveries. Pant comes down the crease to James Anderson and gets a boundary through the outside edge. Next over, the southpaw easily pulls the short balls from Ollie Robinson for boundaries. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja has scored just a single, taking his time to settle. IND 296/5 after 97 overs
