Gurgaon: A toddler died after he was hit by a bus while crossing a road with his father in Sector 57 on Tuesday. The family has alleged that the bus belonged to a private school in the city.
Rahul Bansal (24), the father of two-and-a-half-year-old Purab, and his wife Jyoti (20) had moved to the city for a few months from Pipriya Chhakka, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday in search of a better life and more opportunities.
His brother Ganesh, a daily wager, had found him work at a construction site. Rahul and his family were living with him at a nearby jhuggi.
On Tuesday, Purab, who was present at the construction site too, asked Rahul to take him to a small stall across the road to eat golgappas. While they were crossing the road, Rahul said a yellow bus came speeding towards them and hit his son. The vehicle, he alleged, was being “driven carelessly”.
Ganesh, who works at the same site, said he was on the terrace when he heard hiss brother crying. When he reached the accident spot, he found a crowd had gathered. The brothers rushed Purab to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.
On the basis of Rahul’s complaint, an FIR was lodged on Wednesday at Sector 56 police station under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-A (causing death by negligence). The bus driver, who fled the spot, is yet to be identified.
“We are scanning footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby to identify him,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
Rahul and his family have now gone back to Madhya Pradesh. Ganesh told TOI: “He and Jyoti are devastated. Rahul always wanted Purab to have a bright future and was optimistic he would be able to give him a better life, but the big city has swallowed his son.”
