Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate TPS Randhawa has imposed a fine of Rs500 each on 10 persons for violating the orders issued by the District Magistrate to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

As per the prosecution officer, the in-charge of the Sector 26 police station sent a case of 10 persons - Raj Kumar, Ramesh Verma, Pankaj Singh, Om Parkash Raju, Deepak Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Ran Singh Thakur, Balbir Singh and Bablu - to the court for trial for the offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

The prosecution said these persons were found purchasing vegetables without any permission/curfew pass, thereby violating the order, dated May 28, 2020, issued by the District Magistrate under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Hence, offences punishable under Section 188 of the IPC were made against them and they were arrested. An FIR was registered against the accused. After the completion of investigation, a challan was presented. The police submitted the challan against the accused.

Finding a prima facie case, a notice of accusation under Section 188 of the IPC was served upon the accused to which they pleaded guilty and did not claim trial.

The court, in its order, said since the accused had confessed their guilt, they were held guilty under Section 188 of the IPC. They had been ordered to pay a fine of Rs500 each.
