After completion of lease period HP to take over operations of Shanan power house

Shimla, Aug 13 (UNI) After completion of lease period, the state government would take over the operation of British era 110 mega watt Shanan power house currently being run by Punjab government in Jogindernagar, the Himachal Assembly was informed on Friday.
This was stated by power Minister Sukhram Chaudhary in response to a query during the Question Hour.
He said that the lease period of the project is about to get over soon following which if the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) refuses to hand it over, then the state will move the court.
Apparently, the Member stated that project is in the shambles and it's discharge has rendered heavy loss to the private property of the people.
He said as the queries of people are not being addressed by the PSEB, the state government should intervene in the matter.
Currently, he said the state has no control over the project and despite raising the issue with Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and Punjab government, the issue could not be sorted out.
During reorganization of states Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh which took place in 1966 as per provision contained in Punjab re-organisation Act, 1966. Under this act, Shanan Power House situated at Jogindernagar (Mandi) in the state of Himachal Pradesh was allocated to Punjab by the Centre, Ministry of Irrigation & Power.
The Member alleged that penstocks of the diversion tunnel have been blasted recently but it was not installed so far.
He said that tender have been floated by the PSEB to restore the disrupted power project.
