NEW DELHI. The Taliban continued its offensive in Afghanistan, capturing two major cities, the country's second- and third-largest after Kabul, and a strategic provincial capital on Thursday, further squeezing the embattled government just weeks before the end of the American military mission in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is on the precipice and the nation's security forces have all but collapsed after being battered by a Taliban's rapid advancement they were unable to halt.

Meanwhile, India is closely monitoring the safety and security of Hindu and Sikh minorities in Afghanistan amid reports of atrocities abound by Taliban forces.
