Corona epidemic : deaths due to diarrhea and sepsis increased, less than 60 percent reached hospital

Children were the most affected due to the impact of health services in Corona. According to the National Health Mission (NHM), the deaths of children due to diarrhea and sepsis have increased in the years 2020 and 2021 (Kovid era). Due to the pandemic, 65 percent of pneumonia, 62 percent of asthma, and 44 percent of sepsis patients could not reach the hospital. Cases of severe malnutrition reported in hospitals have decreased by 53 percent this year. Whereas deaths due to this have been registered five percent more in urban hospitals and 59 percent fewer deaths in rural hospitals.

In January 2020, 56497 children were admitted due to pneumonia, but after this, the figure dropped to 39,949 in March and 11,349 in April. In 2021 the number increased to 20679 but in May this number decreased to 10,844.

The condition of vaccine-preventable diseases is serious: If we talk about vaccine preventive diseases, then it has also become very serious in children. There was a reduction in 36 percent of diphtheria, 62 percent of whooping cough, and 30 percent of TB cases in children.

Deaths from measles increased by 267 percent: Hospitals reported 59 percent fewer measles cases, but urban areas reported a 267 percent increase in measles deaths among children aged one to five years.
