Meghalaya: A militant killed in Encounter

He further informed that in connection with the series of incidents, his house located at Mawlai, Shillong was raided by a combined team of East Jaintia Hills Police and East Khasi Hills Police early today.

In an encounter with Meghalaya Police in the early hours on Friday, a surrendered militant was killed by police forces when his house was raided in connection with a series of blasts across the State recently.

Informing media at the Police Headquarters, Shillong, DGP R Chandranathan said that the former General Secretary of the banned outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Cheristerfield Thangkhiew was involved in the recent IED bomb blast at Laitumkhra market, Shillong which left two people injured. He was also wanted in the IED blast in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills, the DGP added.

He further informed that in connection with the series of incidents, his house located at Mawlai, Shillong was raided by a combined team of East Jaintia Hills Police and East Khasi Hills Police early today.

On entering the house, he wielded a knife and attacked one of the police personnel who fired a retaliatory shot which injured him. Later he was taken to Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the DGP stated.
