Covid-19: Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri report Delta+ deaths in Maharashtra

So far, 65 patients have been infected with this variant in Maharashtra.
MUMBAI: Maharashtra has recorded three deaths due to the Delta Plus Covid-19 variant, which is considered highly infectious, so far.
In Mumbai, a 63-year-old fully vaccinated woman died on July 27. She had several comorbidities including diabetes, according to officials.
At least two of her close contacts have also been found infected with the Delta Plus variant. The woman, a resident of the eastern Mumbai suburb of Ghatkopar, died while undergoing treatment in a hospital ICU but it was only on August 11 that the state government authorities came to know that she was infected with the Delta Plus variant which came to light in the genome sequencing report, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. The woman had taken both the doses of Covishield vaccine, but tested coronavirus positive on July 21 with symptoms like dry cough, loss of taste, body ache, and headache, he said.
In Raigad, a 69-year-old man in Nagothane area of the district died due to the Delta Plus variant, confirmed collector Nidhi Chaudhary.
The variant also claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri district on June 13. The woman had not taken even a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
So far, 65 patients have been infected with this variant in the state, said a statement issued by the health department. Out of the newly detected cases, seven were in Mumbai, three in Pune, two each in Nanded, Gondia, Raigad, Palghar, and one each in Chandrapur and Akola districts.
Out of the 65 such patients found in the state so far, the highest cases, 33, were in the 19 to 45 age group and 17 in the 46 to 60 age bracket. The Delta plus variant was also found in seven children and eight senior citizens, the statement said.
