Chennai, Aug 13 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government will revive the
Kalaignar Semmozhi Tamil Award named after former Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi and would be present on his birth anniversary on June
three every year, Finance Miniser Palanivel Thiagarajan announced
today.
Presenting his maiden budget in the State Assembly, he said
the Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi Semmozhi Tamil Award, which has
not been presented since 2010, will hereafter be awarded on
June three every year with a prize of Rs.10 lakh.
He also said the DMK Government will take all necessary steps
to revive the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai.
The use of Tamil as the official language will be strengthened
in all departments from the Secretariat down to the field level.
He said world famous literary classics will be translated into
Tamil and internationally acclaimed Tamil works will be translated
into different languages.
Announcing allocation of Rs five crore this financial year to
carry out archaeological excavations in Tamil Nadu, which is
the highest among all States in the country, Mr Thiagarajan
said the areas in Keezhadi, Sivakalai and Kodumanal, where
excavations have been carried out, will be declared as protected
archaeological sites.
The first stage of deep-sea excavations will be undertaken in
the areas where the Sangam Age harbours of Korkai and
Azhagankulam were located, in co-ordination with National
Institute of Oceanography, National Institute of Ocean
Technology and Indian Maritime University, he added.
