PRAYAGRAJ: The recovery of four cow carcasses on Friday caused tension in
Malava and adjoining areas under the limits of
Tharwai police station in
trans-Ganga area of the city.
Functionaries of
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu frontal organisations rushed to the spot and created an uproar.
VHP general secretary (
Gau Raksha) Lal Mani Tiwari told TOI that a group of villagers spotted some unidentified persons throwing the carcasses from a truck when they were going to take dip in the Ganga on Friday morning.
He alleged that locals spotted two men,
Mumtaz Ali and Asad Ali and four others throwing the carcasses from a truck. When the villagers raised an alarm, the accused made an abortive bid to speed away after threatening the villagers.
Later, leaders of VHP and other Hindu frontal organisations reached the spot and demanded police higher ups to take strict action.
A senior cop said that a case under Sections 3, 5 and 8 of Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and 504 and 506 of
IPC has been registered at Tharwai police station against three persons, including Asad Ali, Mumtaz Ali, regarding the incident.
