Odisha police arrests ex-under secretary in scholarship rip-off

Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha police has arrested a retired below secretary in reference to the E-Medhabruti (scholarship) rip-off to the tune of Rs 36.10 lakh, police stated on Thursday.
The arrested individual is Prakash Chandra Rath, who was concerned within the rip-off throughout his tenure as below secretary, in-charge of scholarship part within the greater schooling division of Odisha authorities. He is being forwarded to the court docket of SDJM, Bhubaneswar, the police stated.
He has been arrested from his residence in reference to the case registered in 2017 within the matter of economic mismanagement and irregularities in cost of E-Medhabruti (scholarship) within the 12 months 2014-15 to giant variety of ineligible college students, main to very large loss to the federal government exchequer, the EOW stated in a press release.
The EOW stated that Prakash in a legal conspiracy with others had sanctioned scholarships to the tune of about Rs 36.10 lakh in favour of as many as 235 numbers of non-bonafide/non-eligible college students, violating the present guidelines/norms.
