Almost all hospital admissions (from Covid-19) of people over 65 are those who are not fully vaccinated, a senior health official said yesterday in a message on the Ministry of Public Health's twitter page.
"It is therefore more important than ever to vaccinate our elderly relatives," urged Dr Hanadi al-Hamad, medical director of Rumailah Hospital and Qatar Rehabilitation Center at Hamad Medical Corporation and Leader of the Health Aging Priority in the National Health Strategy.
"The Delta variant of the virus is a significant risk in most countries around the world, especially for our elderly population. It is more contagious and causes more severe symptoms than other strains," she stressed.
Dr al-Hamad confirmed that nine out of 10 people over 65 have been vaccinated. "Qatar cares for its older population and provides highly effective and safe vaccines. I therefore urge family members of older people to get vaccinated and support your elderly relatives to get the vaccine," she added.
