The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is monitoring threats sent by Britney Spears fans to LA Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny over her decisions in the pop star’s conservatorship case, Page Six has learned.
“LASD continues to monitor the social media chatter regarding the ongoing Britney Spears civil court case,” Deputy Shawn DuBusky told us in an emailed statement on Thursday.
However, the LASD official added, “Although some of the language on social media is concerning, at this time, it has not risen to the level of a creditable criminal threat.”
A quick search on Twitter shows some of the hostile remarks made toward Penny.
On July 1, one person wrote, “brenda penny i hope you die in your sleep.” Another tweeted that same day, “Judge Brenda Penny needs to f–king die! Someone investigate that b–h right now!”
More directly, another July tweet reads simply, “Brenda penny i will kill ur ugly ass” with “[whose] name is BRENDA penny [that] is so ugly” as a follow-up.
Penny took over Spears’ case from Judge Reva Goetz — who put the conservatorship in place in 2008 — in 2016.
But amid the rise of the #FreeBritney movement, Penny’s every move has been held under a microscope by the singer’s fans.

Most recently, she denied “without prejudice” Spears’ attorney Matthew Rosengart’s request to bump up the next court hearing from September — and immediately remove the pop star’s controversial father, Jamie Spears, from the conservatorship.
“Mr. Spears’ removal as conservator is critical to [Britney’s] emotional health and well-being and in the best interests of the conservatee,” Rosengart had argued in court papers.
On June 23, Britney, 39, broke her silence on her allegedly “abusive” conservatorship and told Penny directly, “I want to feel heard and I’m telling you this again so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damage they did to me back then.”
Penny responded at the time, “I just want to commend you again for really stepping forward and stepping out to share your thoughts to not only myself but everybody who has been involved in this case and I just want to let you know how much I do appreciate that.”
Penny could not immediately be reached for comment on reports of her death threats. Rosengart also did not immediately return a request for comment.
