ISRO's Earth Observation satellite (EOS-03) successfully launched from a space centre in Sriharikota Thursday morning to help monitor natural disasters, the state-owned agency said.
"It will provide real-time images of large area region of interest at frequent intervals. This will help in quick monitoring of natural disasters, episodic events as well as any short-term events, said Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday.
The satellite will provide information for application in different sectors including agriculture, forestry, water bodies as well as for disaster warning, cyclone monitoring, cloudburst or thunderstorm monitoring.
EOS-03 will be placed in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit by the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-F10 (GSLV-F10) rocket. It will reach the final geostationary orbit using its onboard propulsion system, said ISRO about the launch.
