UberEats-style delivery service for clothes, kitchen appliances and beauty products can deliver your goods within the HOUR - and it's helping small businesses stay afloat during Covid

  • Flash Market offers delivery for a wide range of items from small businesses
  • Shoppers click what they want online with items delivered in as quick as an hour
  • Founder Matt Gollan said he wanted to help retailers stay afloat during Covid

An UberEats-style delivery service for small retailers has launched in Australia - and shoppers can expect most of their items to arrive within the hour.

Flash Market, created by father-of-two Matt Gollan, operates in a similar way to sites like eBay and Amazon but focuses on selling goods from Aussie businesses that have been greatly affected by the ongoing lockdowns.

Anything from clothes, kitchen appliances, outdoor activities and beauty products are on offer on the website, with the team planning to unveil a phone app next month.

Mr Gollan told Daily Mail Australia the idea first came to him back in 2016 when he noticed several stores were being forced to shut up shop.

'I started to realise there were a lot of local retail stores with for lease and closing down signs which promoted me to create an online marketplace tailored specifically to local retailers allowing them to deliver their products to their customers faster than any other marketplace,' he said.

Mr Gollan said already more than 30,000 customers have created an account and over 2,000 delivery drivers have signed up with more retailers onboarding everyday.

Items will take anywhere between one hour and a day to arrive provided customers are within the business's radius.

Postage and pick-up orders are also on offer.

Mr Gollan said the process from ordering something to seeing it at your doorstep was as simple as any other larger online delivery platform.

'When you open Flash Market, all participating local shops in your area will pop up and showcase their goods. Simply choose the type of delivery service you need: hand delivered, posted, or pick up in store, and we will look after the rest,' he said.

'If you're needing a last-minute birthday gift and you can't leave your office Flash Market will allow you to buy something from a gift store and a local driver will deliver it to you within the hour - or the delivery is free.'

The Flash Market founder said the Covid-19 pandemic had put a huge strain on small retailers trying to stay afloat - something he wanted to change.

'We want these retailers to not only survive this current economic disaster but thrive and succeed as we make shopping local easy for local consumers,' Mr Gollan said.

'We want these retailers to now have first preference at making a sale over larger international marketplaces which will keep our economy strong.

'Already we've seen a lot of new signups from family-owned retail stores that have never sold through an online marketplace or had an e-commerce presence before.'

Delivery costs between $5 to $10 and if the item doesn't arrive in time, the delivery fee will be waived.

Mr Gollan said unlike food delivery services which charge a 35 per cent commission rate, Flash Market will take 10 per cent of each sale.
