Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is $800 more expensive than Galaxy Z Flip 3
While the India pricing of the two new foldable phones is still to come, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is pricier by $800 in the US. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is priced at $1,799, while Galaxy Z Flip 3 at $999. It is not going to be any different in India too in terms that Z Flip 3 will be the more affordable version.
Design: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 opens like a book, Z Flip 3 opens like a flip phone
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a phone and tablet in one. The phone opens like a book, it transforms from a 6.2-inch handset to a 7.6-inch slate. It offers S Pen support for users to directly write on the display. While the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a 1.9-inch cover display for checking notifications on the move or taking selfies and a 6.7-inch main display. It has a more compact design and can easily slip into a pocket.
Both the phones come with two screens, one on the outside and one inside
Both the phones have two screens, where the outer screen is what Samsung calls Cover screen. On the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Cover screen is 6.4-inch. Users can tap and swipe around the interface just any other Android phone. On the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the Cover screen is smaller, measuring 1.9-inc. Its basically meant for for notifications, email alert, text messages and as a viewfinder to take selfies.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 vs Galaxy Z Flip 3: Which phone supports S Pen stylus
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with stylus support. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will work with the digital pen that Samsung calls S Pen. Users will have to buy the S Pen separately. Also, the S Pen will work only with the main display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, not the Cover screen. Samsung has built an S Pen Fold Edition specifically for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It works with Air Commands.
Display specifications: 120Hz refresh rate comes to foldable phones
Samsung brings 120Hz refresh rate to foldables with the new phones. Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G’s main display is 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 22.5:18 aspect ratio (2208 x 1768p resolution) and 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G’s main screen is 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 22:9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 cameras: The big difference
There are big differences between the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 cameras. The biggest is the 4MP under-display camera at the top right corner of Z Fold 3's 7.6-inch main display. With a 4MP sensor, it is largely meant for video calls. Other camera specs of Z Fold 3 include a triple rear camera setup with 12MP wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 has dual 12MP cameras: a wide-angle lens and 12MP ultra-wide lens. On the front is a 10MP selfie camera, there's no telephoto zoom with the Flip.
How different is running apps on both the phones
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the better choice for users who like to multi-task. The Z Fold 3 reportedly allows users to run up to three apps on the screen simultaneously. Samsung is and working with third-party developers to optimize their apps for the Fold 3's large display. The names include Microsoft Office, Snapchat, YouTube and TikTok.
Both the phones support Flex mode. This means that flexible hinge and glass display of the phone allows users to use apps even when the phone is partially folded. Apps reorient to fit the screen, allowing users to send messages or browse the web without holding the phone. For example, you can set the phone somewhere flat, like on a table, and use the bottom half of the screen to navigate. Unfold the phone to use the apps in Full screen mode, and partially fold it again to return to Flex Mode. However, Flex Mode is compatible with select apps only.
The 2021 foldable phones from Samsung are waterproof
Samsung has enhanced the durability on both the phones, with IPX8 water resistance. The duo come with a stronger Armor Aluminum casing and the display is claimed to be up to 80% more durable than the predecessors.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G’s dimensions when folded are: 67.1 x 158.2 x 16.0mm (Hinge) – 14.4mm(Sagging). While when unfolded they are 128.1 x 158.2 x 6.4mm. The phone weighs 271gm. Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G is lighter at 183 gram. As for dimensions, when folded it measures -- 72.2 x 86.4 x 17.1mm (Hinge) – 15.9mm (Sagging). In unfolded state, it measures 72.2 x 166.0 x 6.9mm.
