Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 12 (UNI) Former state assembly speaker and BJP MLA from Phulambri, Haribhau Bagade, on Thursday criticised the MVA government for deliberate delay in giving reservation to the Maratha community.
He said in a press statement that the central government has made necessary amendment to the Constitution so that it would facilitate in giving reservation to the Maratha community, however the state government has no intention of giving reservation to the Marathas because it has been wasting time, he claimed.
The BJP MLA further said that the state government has full rights to give reservation to the Marathas as the central government had amended the Constitution for this purpose.
And the state government should have started the legal process for granting reservation to the Marathas immediately, he pointed and said that but the alliance government is adamant on 50 per cent quota.
This shows that the alliance government does not want to give reservation to the Maratha community, Mr Bagade noted.
The alliance government should stop blaming the central government and instead, it should fulfil its responsibility, he said.
With the Supreme Court having rejected the Gaikwad Commission report during the hearing of the Maratha reservation issue, it is not possible to give reservation to the Marathas until the State Backward Classes Commission submits a fresh report that the Maratha community is backward, the BJP MLA said.
In this situation, it is not right to take up the issue of 50 per cent reservation limit, he added.
