The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Thursday arrested three persons from Pune for allegedly making a phone call to Mantralaya pretending to be NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
The police said the person made the call on Wednesday to a senior official at Mantralaya. “The person posed as Sharad Pawar and said that he was calling from Silver Oak, Pawar’s bungalow in south Mumbai from where he operates,” the officer added.
The official, however, suspecting something was amiss, called up Silver Oak to find out that Pawar was not in the bungalow. “Following this, an FIR was registered at Gamdevi police station,” the officer said.
Accused Vikas Gurav, Kiran Kakade and Dheeraj Pathare were produced before court, which remanded them in police custody till August 20.
“Gurav posed as Pawar and called up a senior official from the home department about the transfer of an official from the revenue department. He had used a software with the help of which the phone number of Silver Oak had flashed in the caller ID of the official,” the officer said.
