Two security personnel, two civilians injured in Kulgam encounter

SRINAGAR: An encounter started between terrorists and security forces in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, near Mir Bazar area on Thursday afternoon after a BSF convoy was attacked on National Highway, said IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
However, the forces retaliated, trapping the terrorists in Mir Bazar area, after which the encounter ensued. The IGP said that reinforcement was sent to the encounter site.
Two security forces personnel were injured in the encounter and had to be hospitalised, the police official said.
One of them was identified as Umesh Singh of Jharkhand; identity of the other was not immediately known.
Two civilians were also among the injured. Sahil Yaqoob Bhat (25) of Dantar in Anantnag and Shahid Farooq Sheikh (22) of Larm, Kulgam suffered injuries in lower abdomen and right thigh respectively.
The security forces are taking all precautions to minimise collateral damage in their efforts to flush out the terrorists.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and General Officer Commanding of Victor Force, Major General Rashim Bali have reached Mirbazar and were supervising the operation at the spot at the time of filing this report.
