Eastern Cape police are looking for a man who broke into a home in the small town of Cookhouse and robbed a 62-year-old woman of 12 beers.
She had to be taken to Andries Vosloo Hospital for a fractured leg after she was shoved onto the ground by the 30-year-old intruder on Wednesday.
The woman had been trying to prevent him from fleeing her home with the dozen beers when he pushed her.
“It is alleged that the complainant caught the intruder in her house when she woke up by the sound of glass bottles being moved around.
"On investigating the noise in her residence, the complainant found the suspects stealing full bottles of beer," said police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson.
Rawlinson told News24 that the women said she had stashed away the 750ml beers for the future, in case President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced another liquor ban.
Some members of the public choose to stock alcohol because opportunistic traders sell it at ridiculously exorbitant prices during the ban.
The woman had managed to shout for help from neighbours to take her to the Somerset East Hospital, said Rawlinson.
The incident took place in Cookhouse’s Gugulethu Street around 15:00.
Cookhouse is a small town 170km north of Gqeberha in the Blue Crane Local Municipality.
The suspect is known to the complainant.
A case of house robbery is being investigated.
The police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the suspect's arrest to contact Detective Captain M Mvelase on 082 4423218 or on 042 247 1177.
