Macroom’s Pádraig O’Connor was delighted to etch his name on the Kinsale Senior Scratch Cup.

He shot rounds of 74 and 72 to win by a stroke on two-over par from Keith Fitzpatrick, who edged out Shane Kenneally after a countback thanks to his second round 70.

The event was a close-fought affair as Paul Buckley, Harry Gillivan, Cathal Butler and Morgan Cain all opened with level par 72s to share the first round lead.

However, O’Connor surged through the filed in the afternoon to win by the minimum from Fitzpatrick, who shot a best of the day 70 as Kenneally posted a one-under 71.

Eoghan Cassidy and Chris Taylor also shot 71s in the afternoon but were left with too much to do after starting with 78s.
