Delhi: Nine-year-old gang-rape victim finally cremated

NEW DELHI: The cremation of a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly gangraped and murdered inside a crematorium in Delhi Cantonment area was held on Wednesday at the same crematorium where she was earlier forcefully cremated.
Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said that the cremation was conducted by the parents of the girl. "The child's parents received the remains at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on Wednesday after which they came to the Old Nangal crematorium near their house and performed the cremation in the presence of 15-20 of their known people," Singh said.
The DCP said, a group of people even tried to get into the crematorium during the cremation, but since the parents of the child did not give consent to let the group in, they were asked to leave. "To avoid any conflict at the crematorium, an adequate number of policemen was deployed outside the main entrance gate," the officer said.
