Two children have been injured after a rollercoaster broke down at a Scottish theme park.

Emergency services were called to the Landmark Adventure Park in Carrbridge, a village in the Scottish Highlands, following reports of a "rollercoaster derailment" this morning.

Police Scotland said the children's minor injuries were treated at the scene.

Six other people are understood to have been assessed by paramedics.

Officers said the incident was caused by mechanical failure.

"Around 11.30 this morning, police and emergency services were called to a report that a carriage from a rollercoaster had suffered a mechanical failure at an adventure park in Carrbridge, Aviemore," police said.

Police were still at the scene at 1.54pm and said "inquiries are continuing".

One theme park visitor said on Twitter that children at the scene were "frightened".

"I was far away when it happened so all I heard was a bang and screams," he said.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also said they dispatched specialist resources to the park after receiving reports of a "rollercoaster derailment" at 11.37am.

A spokesperson said crews left the scene at 12.14pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said they were called at about the same time - 11.41am - and dispatched ambulance crews, "Basics GP", the "pre-hospital Immediate Care and Trauma team" and their special operations team.

Pictures shared on social media appear to show a car that has come off the tracks of the Runaway Timber Train ride.

The ride is described as being "family friendly" on the park's website and has a height restriction of 1.1 metres if accompanied by an adult 18 and over - otherwise it is 1.4 metres.
