(Representational) A 28-year-old woman, who had posted details of her property which she wanted to rent out, lost Rs 4.75 lakh to cyber fraudsters who posed as Army personnel and siphoned the money from her account by tricking her.
The woman had posted details of her property on a prominent property renting facilitation platform. On July 2, she was approached by two persons who identified themselves as Army personnel and showed interest in her property. They even shared their Army credentials, which later turned out to be fake.
After preliminary discussion, they asked for online payment details of the complainant. But then, on the pretext of a technical issue, they sought bank account details from her. Over the next few hours, they siphoned off Rs 4.75 lakh from her account. The callers told her that the money was withdrawn because of some technical issue and promised to return the money, but never did.
The woman then approached the Cyber Crime Cell and an FIR was registered after preliminary probe. An officer from Chinchwad police station said a probe has been launched into the phone numbers and bank accounts used by the suspects.
