Days after Twitter locked Rahul Gandhi’s account over a contentious tweet, it has now locked the official account of the Congress, the party alleged Thursday morning. In a message on its Facebook account, the Congress shared a screenshot of the Twitter notification stating, Your account has been locked.
Twitter alleges that the account is blocked because it violated the company’s rules against posting private information without their authorization.

However, the Congress Party on Wednesday alleged that the accounts of five more party leaders – General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, MP Manickam Tagore, Assam-in-charge Jitendra Singh, AICC general secretary Ajay Maken and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev have been locked.
Congress had levelled allegations against the BJP, suggesting its involvement in the Twitter action. A representative of Congress, Pranav Jha tweeted that: Doesn’t Modi Ji understand that Congress have a legacy of fighting even from behind the locks of kaala paani? He thinks the virtual locks of twitter will deter us from fighting for India??
Earlier this week, Twitter had suspended the account of Rahul Gandhi. The microblogging site on Wednesday informed Delhi High Court that it has blocked the account of former Congress President over his alleged tweet revealing the identity of the family of the 9-year-old Dalit girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi Cantonment area, as the same was in violation of Twitter Policy.
In a message on Facebook on Thursday, the Congress expressed defiance despite its Twitter handle being locked. “When our leaders were locked up in jails, we were not afraid then, then how will we be afraid to close our Twitter account. We are Congress, this is the message of the people, we will fight, we will keep fighting. If raising voice to get justice to rape victim child is a crime, then we will commit this crime hundred times,” the Congress stated.
