Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die, Monsoon session output 28 pc due to Opposition protests

New Delhi, August 11 (UNI) With Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die on Wednesday, the Monsoon session of the Parliament concluded two days ahead of the schedule.

While Rajya Sabha was adjourned in the evening, Lok Sabha had concluded the session earlier in the day.

Both Houses of the Parliament started on a stormy note with the Opposition continuing their protests over Pegasus, farm laws, price rise and other issues. This led to frequent disruptions and adjournments lowering the output of the session.

The 254th session of Rajya Sabha saw massive protests resulting in minimal or no discussion on bills. Other than the Constitution (One hundred and Twenty-seventh Amendment) Bill, 2021, all other bills were passed in din.

There were 17 sittings during the session with 102 hours sitting time available. Only 28 hours and 21 minutes were functional time with the remaining time lost in disruptions.

The Upper House spent 45 per cent of functional time in passing bills. In all, 19 bills were passed of which four were introduced in Rajya Sabha.

As per statistics provided by Rajya Sabha Secretariat, 406 Zero Hour and Special mentions opportunities were lost by members due to continued disruption.

During the Monsoon session, 17 meetings were held by Department-related Standing Committees of Rajya Sabha. The total duration of the meetings of these committees was 28 hours and 53 minutes with the average attendance of the members being 54.45 per cent, the highest ever.
