Dow, S&P 500 end at records after inflation comes in near expectations

Stocks ended mostly higher Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 closing at records, after data showed inflation, while still running hot, moderated in July. The Dow DJIA, +0.62% ended with a gain of around 220 points, or 0.6%, near 35,485, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.25% advanced around 11 points, or 0.2%, to close near 4,448. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.16% lost ground, down around 23 points, or 0.2%, to finish near 14,765.
