We’ve been fighting this pandemic for over a year now. The battle has been so arduous that I barely remember what my life looked like before masks and sanitisers took over. We’ve been through two deadly waves and we are standing on the brink of a third. Now is when we have to be extremely careful. But it seems like people in our country still aren’t understanding the urgency of following safety protocols. People aren’t wearing masks or following social distancing. And that’s not the worst part. When they are caught by the local authorities, people get violent and start fighting. If it goes on like this, we’re going to be fighting the Coronavirus until the end of time.
We say this after a video went viral showing two women fighting with the police in Delhi after they were caught for not wearing a mask. They refused to pay the fine and ended up slapping and pulling a police officer’s hair. It’s shameful. This video went viral after these two women were arrested for assaulting a team of police officers.
The incident took place near New Delhi’s Peeragarhi Metro station. One of the two women was asked to pay a challan for not wearing a mask. After this, all hell broke loose. She started fighting and hurling cuss words at the police officers. When the police wouldn’t let her go, she called her employer and then pulled a police officer’s hair.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Parvinder Singh said, “Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault, obstructing a public servant from performing duty and violating DDMA guidelines.” The two women have been arrested and charged with the relevant sections of the Epidemic and Disaster Management Act.
This video was posted by a librarian posted at Government Boys Senior Secondary School in Tikri Kalan. It has gone viral and netizens are shocked at this woman’s insane behaviour. What was the need for her to get violent? Why not just wear a mask like the rest of us? I can’t stress this enough. People need to follow COVID protocols and respect the police who are risking their lives to keep us safe.
