When asked, Gandhi Ramesh said that he has taken this initiative to encourage people to do so, so that the debt burden on the government can be reduced and the government can be free from debt as soon as possible.
A strange case has come to light from Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, where a man dressed in Mahatma Gandhi`s attire reached the office of the District Collector to help the debt-ridden Tamil Nadu government. He tried to hand over a check of Rs 2.63 lakh to the officials but the officials did not accept it.
The name of this person who reached the collector`s office in Gandhi dress is being told as Gandhi Ramesh. This person named Gandhi Ramesh is a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. This person had decided to donate Rs 2,63,976 to the state to help repay the government`s debt. However, he requested the state authorities to collect the check and issue zero loan receipt to his family in return.
When asked, Gandhi Ramesh said that he has taken this initiative to encourage people to do so, so that the debt burden on the government can be reduced and the government can be free from debt as soon as possible.
A white paper on the state`s financial situation was released by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thiaga Rajan on Monday, stating that the state government is facing financial crisis. He attributed this to improper governance by the erstwhile AIADMK government in the state.
He said that the figures show that the total outstanding debt of the state will reach Rs 5,70,189 crore by March 2022. Since Tamil Nadu has 2,16,24,238 families, this means that the public debt burden on each family would be Rs 2,63,976.
