MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday approved vaccination certificates of 17,758 passengers for buying mostly local train travel passes.
The BMC screened 18,324 persons for their fully vaccinated Covid certificates. Today was the first day when the BMC began screening vaccination certificates of citizens or buying local train monthly passes. 17,758 passengers bought their monthly local train travel passes.
The BMC had set up 358 help desks at 53 railway stations in Mumbai from 7 am on Wednesday. Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar and additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani inspected the process by visiting several railway stations.
“In order to make it convenient for the citizens to travel in local trains and obtain railway monthly pass, an offline verification process for Covid-19 final vaccination (completed 14 days after the second dose) started on Wednesday at 53 railway stations in BMC jurisdiction area and at a total of 109 railway stations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. They were functional in two consecutive sessions from 7 am to 3 pm,” said a senior civic official.
“This offline process of issuing monthly season passes will continue on all seven days of the week till further orders and therefore citizens need not rush to the railway stations,” municipal commissioner Iqbal Chahal said.
Apart from the 53 railway stations in Mumbai, this offline verification facility will be available at 109 local railway stations in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR Region) including neighbouring cities.
