Gurgaon: In order to assess the
quality of water in
villages, the public health engineering department flagged off a
water testing van in the city on Tuesday. The
testing drive will continue till August 30.
The water testing drive started from the
Pataudi block on Tuesday and the officials said that seven to eight villages will be covered every day.
The testing van will cover Khanpur, Ransika, Milkpur, Chavan, Mirzapur, Mandpura, Devlawas, Sherpura, Dadawas etc.
The officials said that a water testing mobile van is a modern technology that can be used for testing in remote areas. “In the time of an epidemic or any health crisis, these
mobile vans can be converted into stationed water testing labs to ascertain the quality of water. It is beneficial especially in villages and remote areas where the water testing facility is limited,” said a district administration official.
The officials said that the water testing through mobile vans is part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide tap water to rural households by 2024.
“Water will be tested based on nine parameters — total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, hardness, iron, fluoride, potential of Hydrogen (pH), nitrate, sulphate and zinc. We will cover all the villages in the city and will also raise awareness on water conservation,” said lab assistant Sunny Kumar.
