New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Wednesday said it will not allow the construction of a Haj House for Muslim pilgrims on government land in Delhi’s Dwarka while accusing the Arvind Kejriwal government of indulging in ‘land jihad’.
Addressing a press conference, VHP’s central joint general secretary Surendra Jain accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of “Muslim appeasement”.
“Kejriwal can do anything for the sake of some Muslim votes. Today, public places are being encroached illegally and masjids and Mazars are being built,” Jain alleged. “Land jihad is happening in Delhi under Kejriwal’s nose.”
He also warned that if the government still goes ahead with its proposal to build the Haj House, people will be “forced to come onto the streets”.
“The state government should give up the idea of Haj House, stop serving the infiltrators and jihadis and take care of the Hindu society too,” Jain said. “Otherwise, the society of the national capital will be forced to come on the streets.”
The Aam Aadmi Party slammed the charges, saying the BJP has nothing to offer but the Hindu-Muslim binary.
“Firstly, the land comes under BJP’s DDA (Delhi Development Authority), and Arvind Kejriwal has no power to give any land to anyone in Delhi,” AAP MLA Somnath Bharti told ThePrint.
“Secondly, BJP has no work other than Hindu-Muslim left. Mr Modi has been given an opportunity twice and by a huge mandate and yet the focus continues to be on such things instead of the economy or say women security,” he added.
“They know they are going to lose the UP elections and hence they are trying to trigger these notions among people.”
The Haj House was first proposed in 2008 by then Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. It is supposed to provide assistance for immigration, accommodation, rooms for prayers for pilgrims.
The project was allotted around 5,000 square metres of land in Dwarka’s Sector 22. In 2018, the Aam Aadmi Party government allocated Rs 94 crore for it.
Last week, however, Dwarka residents had gathered in protest at the proposed site.
‘Kejriwal becoming byword for Aurangzeb’
Jain spent a major part of his press conference accusing the AAP government of being ‘anti-Hindu’ and rolling out Muslim-appeasement policies.
“Hundreds of illegal Mazars (graves and tombs) at public places in the capital are flourishing under their protection,” he claimed.
“In spite of the strong opposition from local RWAs, village panchayats, and public representatives in Delhi and many security concerns, the government is bent on building the Haj House on government land with government money. It only shows that in the greed for the Muslim vote-bank, the chief minister is becoming an embodiment and byword for Aurangzeb.
“The Palam airbase and terminals of the airport are nearby. It’s already a crowded area,” he added. “Imagine what the scene would be when buses from Mewat and all will come.”
Jain further said that the AAP government has done little for Hindus.
“In the last few years, the Delhi government has made an unprecedented record in appeasing Muslims, advocating for terrorists, attacking Hindu points of honour, and expending and splashing around the hard-earned Hindu tax-payers money against the Hindus themselves,” he said.
“It seems Delhi is sitting at the mouth of the volcano of radical Islamic terrorism.”
