Uttar Pradesh Law Commission recently received 8,500 suggestions for the state’s population control bill. However, there is one suggestion that is being widely criticised for its misogynistic nature. The suggestion was that a third child should be allowed to parents with two daughters.
Justice AN Mittal, State Law Commission, who is working on the draft for the bill said that Uttar Pradesh’s Law Commission has received many suggestions. Adding further to it, Justice Mittal said people have suggested that permission should be granted to have a third child if the couple have two daughters.
Talking about the bill, it was uploaded on the law panel’s official website on July 9, and they invited public suggestions till July 19. The panel has also divided the suggestions into 53 categories.
As soon as this suggestion started hitting headlines, netizens couldn’t stop themselves from slamming it. One of the users said that India is evolving, just backwards.
Another said that now it is 2021, 21st century. Yet we’ve such pathetic lowlife people living among us who suggest such orthodox & abhorring ideas for UP draft bill.
Yet another said that this suggestion is insensitive, indecent, and idiotic.
Madhu Garg, vice president, UP, the All India Democratic Women’s Association also said that these kind of suggestions should not be accepted as it promotes the mindset of choosing sons over daughters.
