Greater Noida: A total of 112 persons across four districts in UP have allegedly been cheated in the multi-crore “Car Service Yatra” fraud, the police said on Tuesday. More FIRs are likely to follow in the case, they said.
On Sunday, TOI reported that two arrests were made and a case was filed against six people, including a senior government official in the animal husbandry department, for allegedly perpetrating a fraud under the ruse of buying cars to transport government officials.
But, the role of the seventh accused – the possible mastermind — has come to the fore, an officer said.
An engineer from Greater Noida, his wife and their contacts were duped by the company of over Rs 2 crore. Phase III SHO Vivek Trivedi said they are receiving complaints from Noida, Agra, Lucknow and Ayodhya.
The police have arrested Deepak Chaudhary, the director of the company Car Yatra Service. They also identified another director of the company — Lokpal.
“Deepak and Lokpal had been working together in a transportation firm, Lokpal had floated the idea to start such a firm. In August 2020, they started roping in investments in their company,” he said.
The accused duo siphoned off Rs 5 crore from the firm’s account into their own accounts. “Three accounts have been found so far. We are checking more transactions. There is no money left in the company’s accounts as well as the accounts of the accused,” Trivedi said. A probe is on to see where the money was spent.
“It is possible that they have invested in flats or other properties,” he said.
