Two drug peddlers arrested in Sopore; contraband recovered

Srinagar, Aug 11 (UNI) Police on Wednesday arrested two drug peddlers with contraband in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

A police spokesperson said following specific information, a checkpoint was established at village Wapora, Rafiabad in Sopore. “Police intercepted two persons at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 120 grams of charas from them,” he said.

He said the accused, identified as Irshad Ahmad Lone and Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone, were immediately taken into custody. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Panzla and further investigation have been initiated,” he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
