Assam News: Himanta lists 4 criteria for border resolution, Admissions still pending, uniform wages for tea workers, 929 fresh covid cases

Admissions process still not open to students, Centre to announce uniform wages for tea workers, four core criteria to resolve dispute, 929 fresh Covid-19 cases.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the Assam Government is working on practical solutions and have come up with four broad criteria to solve the prevailing disputes with its neighbouring states; first, is the will of the people, which is the most important of all, second is the administrative convenience of a state, he also said that a state exists for the welfare of the people, third is the contiguity to the constitutional boundary and lastly, the historical perspective as to which side of the two states are the people loyal to.

Centre to introduce uniform wages for tea workers across the country

The state Minister for Labour Welfare & Tea Tribes Welfare Sanjoy Kishan told media today that the wage for tea workers will be uniform across the country. He said that this move of the Central Government will do justice to the tea workers and that the uniform wages system may be introduced from this year onward.

Kishan also mentioned about the issue of provident fund faced by the tea workers, that though the management of many tea gardens are deducting the PF portion from the worker’s wages, the same is not deposited with the PF authorities. He said necessary legal actions will be initiated against the defaulting gardens.

College admission process yet to begin in Assam

Due to lack of clarity from the Assam Government, Cotton University and other leading institutions have failed to start admission process even though it’s nearly two week since the declaration of High School leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examination results, leaving students uncertain about their future.

Cotton University has been the first choice for undergraduate studies for majority of meritorious students from Assam and other parts of the Northeast as it has major courses in all subjects for bachelor’s courses. However, this year the university has not been able to open the online form submission initially because of technical difficulties but of late, lack of clarity from the State education department has been the main reason as to why it has come to a halt in almost all leading institutions in Assam.

Assam registered 929 fresh covid cases on Tuesday

As many as 929 fresh Covid-19 cases were detected on Tuesday with 16 deaths due to the virus. The positivity rate in the state is at 0.81 while the recovery rate stands at 97.14 per cent.
