The East Coast is set for some serious surfing action, with the first edition of the Covelong Classic 2021 National Surf and SUP championships being flagged off on Monday morning.
Surfers from across the country including nine women are participating in the three-day event that ends on Wednesday. More than 50 participants registered from Covelong, Puducherry, Mamallapuram, Mangaluru, Kerala and Goa.
On account of the pandemic, the event is not open to spectators this year.
There are three categories of events for surfing - Groms and under 16, the Men’s open and the Women’s open. The Men’s Stand Up Paddle (SUP) 6km race is scheduled for Wednesday.
The Covelong Classic 2021 showcased some brilliant talent from the surfers and paddlers in its first-ever edition, according to
Surfing Federation of India President Arun Vasu, also the organiser of the event.
