AURANGABAD: A policy decision for starting the Class XI admissions in
Aurangabad was awaited till Monday evening in the wake of the Bombay high court scrapping the proposed Common Entrance Test (
CET).
While Aurangabad has already been excluded from the Centralised Admission Process (
CAP) for admissions to junior colleges, the cancellation of the CET is now expected to pave way for beginning of Class XI admissions.
Deputy director of education for Aurangabad division Anil Sable said official instructions from the state government is needed to proceed further with Class XI admissions in Aurangabad. “We will communicate the further schedule of admissions once the instructions come from the top-level,” he said.
Earlier, the education department had asked junior colleges in Aurangabad to not start with admissions till the CET is over. The order was issued in the wake of a section of colleges that had started enrolling students without waiting for the outcome of CET. The CAP, which was introduced in the academic year 2017-18, used to witness participation of junior colleges from municipal limits of Aurangabad having a combined intake capacity of over 29,000 seats.
A total of 1,85,140 candidates had appeared for the last
SSC examination from Aurangabad division, out of which 1,83,395 have been declared pass based on the internal evaluation carried out by schools.
Vice-principal of
Deogiri College Rajnikant Garud said Class XI admissions should commence early in order to avoid any academic loss to students. “With heavy scoring in SSC, many candidates will face a tough fight in securing admissions. As Aurangabad is going to witness college-level admissions after a brief gap since CAP is no longer there, we demand the early release of notification for Class XI admissions,” he said.
