Memo : Restore flight service between Imphal and Silchar

August 07, 2021

To
Sri Narendra Modi
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India
New Delhi - 110011

Subject: Resumption of flight service between Imphal and Silchar - Earnest request

World Meetei Convention is a platform for the Meetei people (Manipuri) living in India and other countries especially Bangladesh and Myanmar.

I, the undersigned may kindly be allowed to state that though Manipur and Assam are two neighbors its people are very far away from each other. There are two National Highways - No. 2 and No. 37 however WMC can truly say that the two NH are not worthy to be called National Highway because both are roads are poor poorly maintained. And NH2 goes through Nagaland and NH 37 directly connects with Assam's Cachar district.

And Sir, this road NH-37 that connects Imphal and Silchar is an ancient and important road that connects Assam and Manipur. But what is extremely unfortunate is that a car takes 8-9 hours of grueling road journey to cover for a distance of 253 km in the best of season. This arduous hill road journey is extremely difficult for the aged, women and children, etc. However, this road connect families who live on both sides that is, someone's brother or sister reside on either side - Cachar and Manipur.

Sir, for many decades people of Manipur have been expecting that this Hill Road would be improved to be called a National Highway but it is not happening.

Sir, therefore to ease the acute difficulties of the public on both sides WMC would like to request you earnestly to kindly cause to reintroduce the Imphal-Silchar air service that was there in the past, in the public interest.

Yambem Arun Meetei
Secretary General
World Meetei Convention (WMC)
