Three Asian Badminton tournaments cancelled due to COVID-19: BWF

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 11 (UNI) The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Wednesday announced that it has cancelled three Asian badminton tournaments Korea Open 2021, Macau Open 2021 and Korea Masters 2021 due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The Korea Open was due to take place in late August and September while Macau Open in November, the world badminton governing body said.

Meanwhile, the Korea Masters 2021, which was previously listed as postponed from dates in June, has been also cancelled now.

"The ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and complications left local organisers no choice but to cancel the tournaments," the BWF said in a statement.

The pandemic forced the badminton calendar into chaos last year, but international competitions are slowly gaining pace. However, the outbreak of new COVID-19 and slow vaccine rollouts are continuing to cause problems.
