Nats-Mets game suspended due to rain; DH set for Wednesday
Rain forced the suspension of the Tuesday night game between the Nationals and the host New York Mets while Washington held a 3-1 lead with no outs in the top of the second inning.
Juan Soto cracked a three-run homer to left-center off Carlos Carrasco in the first, cashing in hits by Victor Robles and Alcides Escobar to open the game. It was Soto's 19th homer of the year.
The Mets answered with consecutive two-out doubles by Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith in the bottom of the first, but Smith was erased in a rundown for the inning's final out.
After Riley Adams singled to start the top of the second, the umpires asked for the field to be covered. The rain never let up.
The game will be completed Wednesday starting at 4:10 p.m. ET. It will be played as a nine-inning game, followed by a seven-inning game that will begin at 7:10 p.m. ET. It will be New York's 12th doubleheader of the year.
