COIMBATORE: Former Tamil Nadu local administration minister S P Velumani and BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan have dubbed the searches by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on his and his associates’ premises as the ruling DMK's political vendetta.
Velumani tweeted thanking AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam for their support. He also thanked party MLAs, former ministers, party functionaries, friends and the public for standing with him.
On Wednesday, the DVAC continued searches for the second day at KCP Engineers Private Ltd, run by an associate of Velumani. While the first day of raid ended by midnight of Tuesday, a team reached the 11-storey building at Peelamedu in Coimbatore on Wednesday morning. Armed police personnel were deployed at the office. Velumani’s close associate Chandraprakash is the managing director of the company.
BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan condemned the searches and termed them as political vendetta. She said that DMK could not win seats in Coimbatore in assembly election because of Velumani's presence. “They fear that they cannot win the upcoming urban local body elections due to the tall presence of the former minister,” she said.
