The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) informed that the Covid-19 vaccination drive has been cancelled in the city on Tuesday. However, the civic body is working towards conducting 24x7 inoculation drives in the coming days, said Thane mayor Naresh Mhaske. Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that Mumbai city reported 208 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, taking the overall count to 7,37,724. Builder: Param Bir forced me to file plaint against Dawood, kin in Mumbai

In a fresh allegation against former Mumbai commissioner of police Param Bir Singh, builder Shyam Sundar Agarwal has accused him of forcing to lodge a complaint against underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his brothers Iqbal Kaskar and Anees Ibrahim. Kaskar was later arrested. The FIR lodged in October 2017 was one of the sensational cases supervised by Singh, then police commissioner of Thane. Agarwal, who is also the complainant against Singh in an FIR registered at Marine Drive police station, has written a 26-page complaint to state home minister Dilip Walse Patil and director general of police Sanjay Pandey. Maharashtra govt planning more relaxations in Covid-19 curbs: official

Maharashtra COVID task force on Monday discussed the possibility of granting more relaxations in COVID-19 curbs while observing precautions, an official said, adding the government is identifying new areas and preparing guidelines. The meeting of the task force, held in the evening, was attended by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state chief secretary Sitaram Kunte, state COVID task force head Dr Sanjay Oak and other members."The Maharashtra government is now preparing new guidelines after receiving various suggestions and instructions from doctors, experts and government departments. The focus of the discussion (in the meeting) was basically on how to introduce further relaxations while observing precautions," said a state government official, who attended the meeting.He said the government is listing down new areas where more relaxation can be introduced.

Mumbai: List of Covid-19 vaccination centres administering Covaxin, Covishield on Tuesday

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to operate the Covid-19 vaccination drive across 52 centres on Tuesday. All the centres will function from 9 am to 5 pm, each with 100 doses of either Covaxin or Covishield. Complete list here

Navi Mumbai: NMMC to administer only Covishield vaccine to 45+ age group on Tuesday

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will administer only Covishield vaccine at its Covid-19 vaccination centres on Tuesday.The inoculation drive will be held at nine centres in the civic body limits, out of which, only one centre will administer both the first and second doses.The remaining eight centres will give out only second doses of Covishield to eligible beneficiaries. Mumbai: In a first, top cop spells transfer rules with lower-rung in mind

For the first time in the history of the Mumbai Police, commissioner Hemant Nagrale has drafted an ambitious transfer policy, keeping in mind the lower-rung of police personnel — from police constable to assistant police inspector. Nagrale has made it clear that if a police personnel in the rank of constable to assistant police inspector is due for retirement in one year, then he will not be shifted in the reshuffle and if he is due for retirement in two years, all-out efforts will be made to grant him posting of his choice. Tenure in most polluted Wadala, Yellow gate, Shivaji Nagar and Deonar police stations will be of three years against the normal tenure of five years. Full story here

Teen kills mom with karate belt, tries to pass it off as suicide

In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old Navi Mumbai girl, who passed her SSC exams last week, strangulated her 40-year-old mother to death with a karate belt after a tiff over her studies, police said on Monday. The incident occurred on July 30 with the girl allegedly trying to pass it off as a suicide, but the autopsy report confirmed it to be murder, investigating officer of Rabale Police Station, assistant police inspector Dinesh Patil, said. Fewer than 3% of adults till 45 years fully vaccinated in Mumbai

The city’s young workforce will be at a disadvantage when local trains resume operations for the fully vaccinated from August 15 as fewer than 3% have got both their doses. Thane: Dopey, minor aide arrested for robbing Mumbai resident of phone and cash

A 20-year-old dopey and his minor aide were arrested within 24 hours for allegedly robbing a 23-year-old Mumbai resident of his phone and cash on the Kalyan skywalk, Sunday wee hours. According to the railway police, around 11pm, the victim, a resident of Lower Parel was on his way home after meeting a friend in Kalyan when he was accosted near Kasara end of the skywalk connecting the railway station by the duo accused who were apparently under heavy influence of some narcotic substance. With a drop in testing over the weekend, fewer Covid-19 detections in Maharashtra & Mumbai

Maharashtra and Mumbai reported a significant dip in daily detections in Covid cases on Monday. Maharashtra reported 4,505 new cases, the lowest in nearly six months, since February 16 (3,663). Mumbai reported 208 cases on Monday, lowest since April 2020 (183). Officials attributed the dip to a drop in testing over the weekend. Maharashtra conducted only 1.5 lakh tests on Sunday, as against over 2 lakh on weekdays. Full story here
