Marlins place 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. on COVID-19 list

The Miami Marlins placed second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the COVID-19 list on Monday, while adding infielder Deven Marrero and left-hander Shawn Morimando to the roster after purchasing the contracts of both players.

Chisholm stayed behind in Denver with virus symptoms after the Marlins were swept in a three-game weekend series against the Rockies. Miami opened a three-game series at San Diego on Monday night.

Chisholm, 23, is batting .252 in 78 games this season with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. In 99 games over two seasons, he is a .237 hitter with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Monday's move marks the fourth time Marrero has been added to the Marlins roster. The previous three times, he was designated for assignment but passed through waivers and remained in the organization.

Marrero, 30, has three hits in seven at-bats over three games with the Marlins this season. In six major league seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and Marlins, he is a .199 hitter over 166 games with six home runs and 38 RBIs.

Morimando, 28, has just two appearances over three previous stints with the Marlins this season, posting a 6.35 ERA in 5 2/3 innings. Before this season, his previous appearance in the major leagues was two games with the Cleveland Indians in 2016.
