With the goal of decriminalizing politics, the Supreme Court issued an order today requiring political parties to reveal any criminal antecedents of candidates within 48 hours of their selection. In its February 13, 2020 judgment, a bench comprising of Justices RF Nariman and BR Gavai changed the directive in this regard. The Supreme Court had ordered that the facts be publicized within 48 hours of the candidate's selection or not less than two weeks before the first deadline for filing nominations, whichever is earlier, in paragraph 4.4 of the February 2020 verdict. The bench announced today that it had revised paragraph 4.4 of the cited judgment and made it as publication within 48 hours.
