On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his unhappiness with MPs skipping sessions and requested the names of absentees from the Rajya Sabha during the passage of a bill. PM Modi, speaking at the BJP's penultimate parliamentary party meeting of the session, emphasised the importance of having MPs and ministers in the House.

On Monday, prime minister Narendra Modi voiced his unhappiness with MPs skipping sessions and requested the names of absentees from the rajya sabha during the passage of a bill. PM Modi, speaking at the BJP's penultimate parliamentary party meeting of the session, emphasised the importance of having MPs and ministers in the House.

After being cleared by the lok sabha on august 3, the bill to abolish nine appellate tribunals, including the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), was passed in the Upper house on Monday.

Despite the opposition's insistence that the bill be referred to a select committee, it was approved in Rajya Sabha. During the bill's passage, the opposition requested a division, which required voting. Several bjp MPs were missing around that period, according to sources, and they were requested to return promptly.

The prime minister had instructed his parliamentary colleagues to pay close attention and be present in the house at all times, and to be ready for anything the opposition may hurl at them in response. All state ministers have been told to exclusively sit in the rajya sabha for the duration of the session unless they have roster duty or questions in the lok sabha, according to a recent council of ministers meeting.
Prior to 2019, the prime minister had reprimanded Union ministers who were late or did not tell parliament and did not perform their scheduled obligations. The Prime Minister's office receives a list of ministers who have been assigned to roster duty on a regular basis.
