Defamation case: Javed Akhtar urges Bombay HC to dismiss Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking quashing of proceedings

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar's legal tussle has been going on since long time. Now, Javed Akhtar on August 9 requested the Bombay High Court to dismiss the plea filed by Kangana seeking quashing of the criminal defamation proceedings that were initiated against her on a complaint filed by him by a metropolitan magistrate court. Javed Akhtar in his counter affidavit in the High Court stated that the metropolitan magistrate's court in suburban Andheri had followed a due process in launching the criminal defamation proceedings against Kangana Ranaut. It also has that the magistrate had been well within his powers to initiate the proceedings against the actress. The counter affidavit was filed in response to Kangana where she challenged the defamation proceeding in the beginning of the year stating that the magistrate's court had failed to apply its mind to the case.
