Palike to launch a programme where doctors will go door to door to test for covid-19, provide medical kits and record vaccination data on a newly built app

For the early identification of covid cases, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all set to launch a programme where doctors will visit each household. Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that this ambitious programme will be launched from August 16.

As a pilot project, two wards will be selected in each Assembly segment. A team of doctors, paramedics and ASHA workers will visit every house. An app will record the data of patients who will be screened for any symptomatic cases and co-morbidities.

The team will also collect details whether the residents have taken the vaccine and ascertain reasons if they have failed to do so. In case of any symptomatic patients, on-the-spot testing will be done, and medical kits will also be provided. Gradually, the door-to-door survey will be extended to all the 29 lakh houses in Bengaluru
Though covid cases seem to be under control in Bengaluru, the highest number of cases is being reported from areas under Yelahanka, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli assembly segments.

At a covid review meeting with BBMP officials on Monday, Ashoka said that most of these covid cases were reported from apartments.

“We will ask marshals and health officers to keep a tab on apartments. I request everyone to follow covid-appropriate behaviour so that we can curb the rise of covid cases. We will come up with detailed guidelines including for hotels. We will review the situation after August 15 and take stricter decisions if needed,” said Ashoka.

On Monday, 348 new covid cases were reported in Bengaluru with one death. This is the lowest record of covid deaths reported during the second wave so far. Ashoka said: “Currently, 181 covid patients have been admitted to the government and 462 to private hospitals for treatment under BBMP limits. In Bengaluru Urban (excluding BBMP) limits, 88 patients are being treated. The positivity rate has gone down from 0.9 per cent to 0.64 per cent.

“A model children’s hospital is ready for inauguration at Padmanabhanagar constituency. The facility is such that there will be a play area for covid-positive kids.

There will be a facility for one of the parents to stay with the kids during treatment as well. Such paediatric hospitals will be set up in each of the Assembly segments.”
