AIADMK MLAs from the western region and hundreds of AIADMK cadre rueshed to former Minister and party whip S.P. Velumani’s house in Kuniamuthur on Tuesday, August 10, after officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruptione (DVAC) began searching his house.

AIADMK MLAs from the district including Amman K. Arjunan (Coimbatore North), P.R.G. Arunkumar (Kavundampalayam) and S. Damodaran (Kinathukadavu) also arrived at Kuniamuthur on Tuesday morning.  Other MLAs were on their way to his house too, sources added.

Party cadre began gathering outside the Kuniamuthur residence since 7 a.m. when the raids commenced. By 9 a.m., they staged a dharna outside the gates and raised slogans condemning the raids.

The Coimbatore City Police deployed around 50 police personnel outside Mr. Velumani's residence, the sources said.

The raids by the DVAC sleuths were under way in 34 other locations across Coimbatore district, including in Vadavalli and Madukkarai, at the properties of the former Minister's relatives and associates.
